Lararth was established in 1994. The affix, effectively a brand name which differentiates our dogs and puppies from other breeders was made up by using the last seven letters of our village name. Our first 'joint' acquisition was a bitch called Pendledene Atari and the following year a dog; Bedwin Xorro, originally owned by his breeder Malcolm Griffiths and David's family returned home from Germany. "Atari" and "Xorro" were mated; the result was to be the real beginning of the Kennel when in 1997 Lararth Eleisha was born, arguably the most successful and consistent producing GSD bitch of the modern era. |

Sharon L Bowen
Sharon's involvement with German Shepherds began back in the early 70s when her parents broke every rule in the book and bought a puppy registered simply as 'Alpine Bloom' from dis-reputable breeders who had no knowledge or experience of the breed. The bitch known as 'Sheba' was worked in obedience making 'Test A' standard. It was during this time Sharon's mother developed an interest in the showing side of the breed and formed the Shacarn affix under which she bred the multiple champ show winning dog Shacarn Achen born in 1976. The Shacarn affix was short lived and breeding would continue from 1980 under the Pendledene affix.
During her childhood years, Sharon's interest in German Shepherds was zilch, much preferring Labradors and vowing one day to indeed own one. A promise which has yet never been fulfilled! In 1984 a bitch arrived who wasto completely change Sharon's attitude toward
David C Bowen
David was born into and brought up on a working dairy farm, Cross Hill, Llanfihangel-ar-Arth. A GSD was always present during his childhood but the family concentrated in those days on successfully showing horses, sheep, pigs, chickens and rabbits. David was a successful breeder and exhibitor of Show Racer pigeons, his highest accolade was winning Best in Show at the Old Comrades show held at the Royal Horticultural Halls, London in 1982. The Old Comrades show is the most prestigious show in the Show Racer calendar, sponsored by the Star & Garter Home for Ex-Serviceman it is the pigeon equivalent to Crufts.
In 1981 when "Rex" the old pet GSD passed away, the family decided to purchase a good quality puppy with a view to possibly showing him in the future. Their search, guided by "Rex's" pedigree led them to one of the most acknowledged kennels of its day. The BRITTAS kennel owned by Mrs Gwen Barrington and located in Co Meath, Eire is still regarded as one of the most successful kennels in the history of the breed, amongst her many champions Gwen Barrington produced 12 international champions all descending from one line. The family purchased a male puppy sired by Groll v Restrauch and christened him "Britt".
"Britt's" show career was very limited and after being bitten by the dog showing bug the family, in keeping with early standards for showing high quality stock, decided to seek out a better quality GSD more in tune with what they had witnessed at the "Two Day Show" held at Tredegar Park in 1985. Through "Britt's" pedigree and with the advice of Gwen Barrington the Bowen family contacted Malcolm Griffiths of the BEDWIN Kennel, from here they bought a bitch; Bedwin Fina followed by a dog; Bedwin Pirol and then Pirol's mother, Panjar v Loher Stein

The next few years would see both "Pirol" and "Panja" gain their titles. Bedwin relocated to Llanfihangel-ar-Arth and opened a quarantine kennel which David became the manager of and stayed in the position until 1996.
David along with his brother Elfyn and Malcolm Griffiths spent most of their weekends during the early 90s campaigning the dogs thoughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Their efforts resulted in the following notable results at the prestigious German Sieger show:
1991 SG11 Bedwin Nuschka
1991 SG24 Bedwin Nickor
1993 SG21 Bedwin Cira
1993 SG16 Bedwin Xorro
1994 V38 Bedwin Cira
1994 V33 Bedwin Xorro
1994 VA3 Bedwin Xorro (Switzerland)
David is the motivator behind Lararth, he is the force behind the training regime and never loses sight of his goal. He became a Kennel Club recognised Championship show judge in 1999 and has awarded CCs on four occassions and Green Stars once.

GSDs. She was Garmarti Mary Rose of Pendledene (Rosy), it was a case of total devotion from the onset and were inseparable until Rosy past away in 1996. Through "Rosy" and with the help of Rose & Harry Emmett of the Emmevale kennels, Sharon learned how to handle GSDs which was were she was to find her early successes campaigning Santina Carrera and Cotchess Digger to their titles.

Sharon successfully passed the GSD Breed Council exam and assessment for potential Championship show judges in 2000. The following year she passed the Kennel Club Rules & Regulations exam and attended the Movement & Confirmation seminar, these exams along with judging experience and success with her own dogs made her qualified to award Challenge Certificates in German Shepherds. In 2005 that ambition came to fruition when she judged the Scottish Kennel Club championship show.

Nathan A C Bowen
Born 18 January 1998, he's always been surrounded by GSDs. He has a true love of all animals and following our promise to be allowed to attend more dog shows once he turned seven he's literally held us to our word and now gets very upset if there's a show he cannot attend.
We gave him his own dog Lararth Sonny in 2005 and now to help with the training and showing he shares ownership with his very good friend Marina Jane Julian.
Nathan now owns a second dog, LOUTORIA ICICLE, in partership with his breeders, Trevor, Lynne & Andrea Groves.
Nathan has taken part in a number of the Junior Handling classes which the clubs have been running to encourage the younger element. Nathan enjoys the shows but at the moment it is more enjoyable for him to spend time with his friends Clay Bryant & Allistair Findlay rather than taking an interest in what's happening in the ring. We hope that he will follow us into the breed and share our interest in showing, but for now we are happy that he loves the dogs and enjoys the social side of the shows.

Through "Eleisha" the kennel went from strength to strength she has produced to date; two Champions, one Junior Warrant winner, the British Youth Siegerin and seven multiple Best Puppy and Championship show winners. With careful consideration her legacy should last well into the future.
In 1997 another bitch joined the kennel, Blanik Aria of Lledfegin she herself would prove to be an important addition and would leave her own legacy. Not only a prolific winner in the showring notching up 2 CCs and 1 RCC' mated to Apollo von Dakota, who had also tied up so well with Eleisha, she produced the Top Winning GSD of 2003 & 2004, Champion Lararth Houdini.
In 2003 and again in 2005 the kennel won the title of UK Top Breeders, a competition run by a weekly canine publication and supported by a major pet food company. Points are given to breeders for Challenge Certificates won throughout the year. The kennel or breeders who have won the most Challenge Certificates are declared the Top Breeders.
As a show kennel and as breeders, we have always strived to produce animals who are of sound mind and body with good type, strong bone and physical strength. Our aim is to hopefully maintain the strong family line we have been building up and continue on, hopefully long into the future.
